At Third Thursday False Bay, our mission as a non-profit organisation is to uplift and support the False Bay community. We focus on creating sustainable change through collaboration and active involvement in various community projects.

Third Thursday False Bay is a chapter of Third Thursday South Africa. We are eight strong women whose core values are grace, humility, and compromise. Committed to making a difference within the False Bay community, we leverage each other's strengths and networks, believing in a hands-up approach. For each of us, working with Third Thursday False Bay involves voluntary, part-time contributions. We thrive on collaboration and connection, and we don’t mind getting our hands dirty as we engage in various community projects.

At Third Thursday False Bay, we envision a world where every person in the False Bay community has access to the resources they need to live a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life. Through our various community projects, we strive to create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Our non-profit organisation is built on a foundation of compassion, integrity, and accountability. We believe in treating everyone in the False Bay community with dignity and respect, and we are committed to using our resources effectively and efficiently to support our community projects.

Our team is made up of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in the False Bay community through various community projects. We work tirelessly to ensure that our programs and services are effectively meeting the needs of those we serve.

After COVID, the library at Simon’s Town High School had not reopened, and there was no librarian in place. This situation became one of our first community projects. As a non-profit organisation dedicated to serving the False Bay community, we rolled up our sleeves, arrived with buckets and cleaning materials, and over several weeks undertook the sorting, cleaning, and reorganisation of the space. The library was then proudly handed back to the school and is now actively used both during and after school hours.

Mandela Day saw the Third Thursday False Bay ladies, alongside their families, come together at the school with teachers, parents, learners, and the community for a meaningful day of community projects. Together, we engaged in productive activities such as cleaning the fields, planting new greenery, revitalising the jungle gym to enhance safety, and painting various areas around the school. All participants left feeling fulfilled and inspired — it was a true day of giving back to our local school, demonstrating the spirit of our False Bay community.

During the festive season, we were fortunate — through our fundraising efforts — to hand over 80 Holiday hampers, thoughtfully individualised by age, to 80 children between the ages of 0-17 years old. In partnership with the Community Police Forum (CPF) ladies of Ocean View, this initiative was part of our community projects aimed at supporting the False Bay community. It was a day filled with love, joy, and connection, as we shared the spirit of giving with each child.

Panties for Africa was founded by Tari, one of our Third Thursday False Bay community members. This project is deeply close to all our hearts. We recognise that underwear is a basic necessity, yet for many young girls, it remains an unaffordable luxury. One of our primary initiatives is to raise funds and collect underwear for community projects, which are then distributed both locally and to communities in Zimbabwe.

Our breakfast mornings have grown organically over time, and this year we were honoured to collaborate with Tintswalo Summer House, where 70 community members from the False Bay community generously gave their time and support for Panties for Africa, a vital community project.
Over the past three years, this initiative has grown significantly - from collecting over 1,000 pairs of panties in 2024 to distributing more than 3,500 in 2025. Thanks to this year’s breakfast, along with additional donations and underwear received on the day, we have already reached 2,000 pairs towards Tari’s goal of 5,000 for 2026.

As part of the False Bay community, we dedicate a portion of our fundraising to responding to hardships that, sadly, do occur — from devastating fires that sweep through areas to families facing sudden loss. Having access to funds and the ability to act swiftly has enabled us to support those in need through our community projects in meaningful ways — whether by purchasing school stationery for matric learners who have lost everything, or providing essentials such as nappies and formula for young children.

We love our False Bay community and the various community projects we engage in, so feel free to chat.
